THE FIVE ELEMENTS

ENGLISH | DEUTSCH | ELLHNIKA

The Five Elements (WUXING) is the cognition of the material world made by ancient Chinese. In ancient times it was used to explain and analyze things and their changes in the natural world. Thus, the terms and their interrelationships are synonymous. To apply in medical practice, they must be understood abstracted. Later applied into TCM it became an important component in the theoretical system of TCM.

In Chinese "WU" refers to five categories of things, indispensable to daily life and productive labor, in the natural world, namely wood, fire, earth, metal and water. "XING" means movement and transformation. So WUXING refers to the movement and transformation of the five elements as well as their interrelationships.
